Restoring a Daemon

After securing a resin Third Edition Keeper of Secrets for a great price I knew I had to put my own spin on it.

This model is becoming increasingly rare as the years go on. The metal version in particular goes for up to and over 100 quid on ebay quite regularly. Initially I had my heart set on the OG metal variant but as I had every intention of using this miniature for gameplay the resin option became far more appealing. The resin weighs less than half of the metal variant and it's far easier to kitbash.

As with many of my Slaanesh projects I've been trying to walk a line between old school and new, combing elements from older sculpts and contemporary. The Third Edition KoS has some particularly goofy proportions and I wanted to try and modernise it a little. (Shout out to Trish, the original sculptor for the charm she poured into this piece).

By replacing the original sword (that was looking a little worse for the wear in the resin) with the new AoS Keeper of Secrets blade and the original left hand I was able to find a middle ground that kept the feel of the classic sculpt, but introduced some new elements. The new sword is absolutely massive and beyond excessive, perfect.

My favourite alteration I made was on the horns. This sculpt often gets laughed at for its second head option, often compared to some weird starfish, the horns don't quite cut it. Clipping off the tips of the six original horns I replaced them with sharper more pronounced plastic spokes from the Slaanesh chariot. This immediately elevated the whole look of the mini in my opinion, the head looked far more menacing and appeared way more in line with the original Third Edition artwork.
