BL-91 - An Unnamed Shrine World
 
Over the past 5-6 months, I've been slowly working on a new sci-fi narrative set in the broader 40K universe. The goal is to create an engaging sandbox, and what better place to set it than a desert world deep in space? I'm drawing inspiration from established lore across multiple settings, with significant influence from the Vastarian setting, spearheaded by Between The Bolter & Me, as well as Bill Ford’s works.

My aim is to develop a background that’s both deep and immersive, yet accessible enough for others to add their own stories to this world. The core of the setting revolves around the planet BL-91—currently unnamed by the Imperium, and the original Shrine World name used by the Eldar has long been lost. This planet is a harsh desert world with an ancient past stretching back tens of thousands of years.

Once a sacred site to the Eldar, BL-91 was a place where the dead were worshiped, great artifacts were stored, and profound secrets were kept hidden. However, after a cataclysmic event decimated a large portion of their species, BL-91 was forgotten. Pilgrimages to the planet ceased, and it was lost to the records of history.

Fast forward to the present, and the planet still exists, isolated in a region of dead space known to the wider galaxy as the Void Steppe. Lacking major trade routes and offering little in terms of valuable resources, the planet remains mostly unnoticed. However, beneath the desert sands and within the ancient tombs and shrines that have been sealed away for eons, there lies power—power that could change the course of history if discovered by those bold enough—or foolish enough—to seek it.
